  1. Management of personal information

    Japan Weather Association (hereinafter, “JWA”) will carefully handle personal information provided by users of the JWA website (hereinafter, “Users”) and respect the privacy of Users. JWA takes appropriate safety measures, and implements adequate and sufficient supervision when handling personal information.

  2. Definition of personal information

    Personal information refers to “personal information” as stipulated in Article 2, Paragraph 1 of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (Act No. 57 of 2003; hereinafter, “APPI”). Specifically, it refers to information that is provided by Users through inquiries and so forth and either can be used to identify a User or is specific to a User, including, but not limited to, their name, residential address, phone number, and e-mail address.

  3. Purpose of use of personal information

    JWA acquires and uses the personal information of Users to the extent necessary for the following purposes. In the event that JWA uses any personal information beyond the scope of the following purposes, JWA shall obtain prior consent from each User in an appropriate manner:

    • To provide JWA’s services (hereinafter, “Services”);
    • To improve or enhance the content of the Services or to develop new services;
    • To announce new features, updates, campaigns, etc. relating to the Services, and other services provided by JWA (including sending emails, flyers and other direct mail);
    • To contact Users as necessary regarding maintenance, important announcements, etc.;
    • To respond to opinions, inquiries, etc. from Users in relation to the Services (including identity verification of a User);
    • To report on the usage of the Services to a User;
    • To request Users to cooperate with questionnaires, interviews, etc. in relation to the Services or to participate in various events, or to report the results of such questionnaires, interviews, events, etc.;
    • To examine and analyze the usage history, etc. of the Services, and to use the results of such examination and analysis for improvement and development of the Services and distribution of advertisements;
    • To conduct solicitation, distribute advertisements or engage in other marketing activities (including measurement of advertising effectiveness) for JWA’s products and services according to User preferences and interests based on analysis of User attributes, usage history of the Services, etc.; or
    • To identify, and deny use of the Services by, any User who violates the terms of use or intends to use the Services for a wrongful or unjust purpose.

  4. Provision of personal information

    JWA will not provide acquired personal information to any third party except in the following cases:

    • With the consent of the relevant User;
    • When the provision of personal information is necessary for the protection of the life, body or property of an individual and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the User;
    • When the provision of personal information is specially necessary for improving public health or promoting the sound growth of children and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the User;
    • When it is necessary to handle personal information to cooperate with a national government organ or a local government, or an individual or a business operator commissioned by either of the foregoing, in executing affairs prescribed by laws and regulations and obtaining the consent of the User is likely to impede the execution of such affairs; or
    • Any other cases permitted by laws and regulations.

  5. Disclosure of personal information

    When requested by a User to disclose their personal information, JWA will disclose it without delay after verifying the Userʼs identity. However, in any of the following cases, JWA may decide not to disclose all or part of that Userʼs personal information, in which case JWA will notify the User of such decision together with a reason:

    1. When the disclosure poses a risk of harm to the life, body, property, or other rights or interests of the User or a third party;
    2. When the disclosure poses a risk of significant hindrance to JWAʼs business activities; or
    3. When the disclosure poses a risk of violating the APPI or any other laws or regulations.

  6. Correction, etc. of personal information

    If a Userʼs personal information in JWAʼs possession is incorrect, the User may request JWA for the correction, supplementation or deletion of such information (hereinafter, “Correction, etc.”).
    Upon request from the User, JWA will promptly conduct a necessary investigation, and if JWA determines that there are legitimate grounds for the request as a result of the investigation, JWA will promptly perform Correction, etc. of the personal information.

  7. Discontinuation of Use, etc. of personal information

    A User may request JWA to stop using, erase, or stop providing to a third party their personal information in JWA’s possession (hereinafter, “Discontinuation of Use, etc.”). Upon such request from the User, JWA will promptly conduct a necessary investigation, and if JWA determines that there are legitimate grounds for the request as a result of the investigation, JWA shall promptly perform Discontinuation of Use, etc. of the personal information. However, if the Discontinuation of Use, etc. of personal information would incur considerable cost or otherwise be difficult to perform, and if it is possible to take alternative measures necessary to protect rights and interests of the User, JWA shall take such alternative measures.

  8. How to request disclosure, deletion, etc., and Discontinuation of Use, etc.

    If a User intends to request the disclosure, deletion, etc., or Discontinuation of Use, etc. of their personal information in JWA’s possession, please contact JWA as specified in “10. For inquiries” below.
